Shepton Mallet is a town in the Mendip district of Somerset. The Mendip Hills lie to the north and the River Sheppey runs through the town. Shepton Mallet lies on the route of the Fosse Way Roman Road and there is evidence of Roman Settlement in the town. The town contains parish church and a number of listed buildings. Shepton Mallet Prison was England's oldest prison still in use until its closure in March 2013.
There are three primary schools within Shepton Mallet. Shepton Mallet infant school on Waterloo Road, St Paul’s C of E (VC) junior school on Commercial Road and Bowlish Primary school. Education for 11 to 16 year olds is provided by Whitestone School and post 16 education can be obtained by travelling to Frome Community College or Strode College in Street.
